Cloudflare has announced the launch of Cloudflare OS, an open-source artificial intelligence agentic workspace that runs entirely in the browser and is designed to let every employee — not just developers — build, automate, and collaborate using custom AI micro-applications.
The platform, revealed on August 5, 2026, was built originally for Cloudflare's own workforce. The company said its employees use it daily to conduct research, produce documents tied to live data, run automated workflows, and build tools for their day-to-day jobs. Now Cloudflare is opening the framework to any organization, free and open source. For teams tracking the latest AI tools and enterprise platforms, the release represents a notable shift toward democratizing AI agent creation beyond engineering departments.
How Cloudflare OS Works
Most AI tools offered to enterprises are generalized: they understand a great deal about the world but very little about the specific company where they are deployed. Cloudflare OS was designed to solve that problem by capturing a company's internal working knowledge from day one.
Employees can create custom micro-apps that encode their own workflows, institutional knowledge, and internal system connections. These micro-apps can then be shared across teams without losing context. Each app gets its own isolated database, real-time capabilities, and access controls — and none of it requires writing code or waiting for IT approval.

Bring Your Own Model
One of the platform's standout features is its bring-your-own-model architecture. Through Cloudflare AI Gateway, organizations can connect to any AI model provider rather than being locked into a single vendor. This means an enterprise could route routine tasks to a small, efficient model while reserving more expensive frontier models for complex reasoning — a cost-optimization strategy that has become increasingly important as AI spending surges.
Administrators gain granular visibility into how tokens are consumed. Spending can be broken down by person, team, and application, and admins can set budgets, rate limits, and routing rules based on task complexity. This level of control directly addresses one of the biggest pain points for enterprises adopting AI: unpredictable and often ballooning costs.
Open Source and Zero Trust
Cloudflare emphasized that the framework is fully open source and runs on a company's own Cloudflare account. Organizations own everything they build — including processes, context, and internal system connections — and are not locked into a closed product.
The platform is built on Cloudflare Access, the company's zero-trust security product, which verifies every user and every request before access is granted. This means that even as employees create and share AI-powered micro-apps, the organization maintains enterprise-grade security controls.
Prince framed the decision to open-source the platform as a response to a gap in the market. "We built this because nothing else did what we needed," he said. "Now any company can start from where it took us years to get."
What This Means for the Enterprise AI Market
The launch arrives at a moment of intense competition in the enterprise AI space. Companies including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have been racing to embed AI agents into their productivity suites, but most of these offerings are proprietary and tightly coupled to a single model provider.
Cloudflare's approach differs in two key ways. First, by open-sourcing the platform, it removes the vendor lock-in that has made many enterprises hesitant to build deeply on any single AI provider's tools. Second, by making the platform accessible to non-developers, it addresses the bottleneck that has slowed AI adoption in many organizations: the reliance on overstretched engineering teams to build every integration.
The bring-your-own-model feature also positions Cloudflare OS as a neutral layer in an increasingly fragmented AI landscape. As new models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, and open-source communities continue to emerge at a rapid pace, the ability to swap between them without retooling an entire platform could prove to be a significant advantage.
Cloudflare did not disclose specific pricing for the infrastructure required to run Cloudflare OS, but the company noted that since the platform runs on a customer's existing Cloudflare account, the primary cost is the compute and AI model usage that the organization is already paying for. For smaller companies, this could mean the difference between experimenting with AI agents and deploying them across an entire workforce.
