The gunfire came just two days after a separate attack on the same house. Around 4 a.m. on Friday, someone threw an "incendiary destructive device" at the property, sparking a fire on an exterior gate, according to police. No one was injured, and the suspect fled on foot before officers arrived.
A Suspect Arrested at OpenAI Headquarters
Roughly an hour after the Molotov cocktail attack, officers responded to OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters, where a man was allegedly threatening to burn down a building. Police said the officers "recognized the male to be the same suspect from the earlier incident." The 20-year-old was arrested, and charges remain pending.
The San Francisco District Attorney's Office told ABC News that decisions on whether the cases will be pursued at the local or federal level, and what charges will be filed, could come as soon as next week. The choice matters: federal prosecution typically signals investigators view an attack as terrorism or a threat against interstate commerce, while state charges would frame the episodes as conventional violent crime.

The two cases do not appear to be connected, based on the police account: the Molotov suspect acted alone and on foot, while the gunfire suspects allegedly fired from a vehicle and were arrested at a different address. Whether investigators ultimately reach the same conclusion is not yet known.
OpenAI said the situation is under control and that there is no immediate threat to its offices. The company has not commented beyond that statement, and Altman has not publicly detailed the incidents. San Francisco police have asked anyone with information about either episode to come forward.
